About Implants
An implant is a replacement 'tooth root' upon
which we can build a new tooth. They are usually
made from titanium and are inserted into the jaw in
the same position as the missing tooth.
For back teeth, the implant
is usually placed and then left for at least 10
weeks before the abutment and crown are
fitted, to allow for the implant to heal into the
bone.
For front teeth it is often possible to
immediately replace the whole tooth with an implant,
the abutment
and a provisional crown; a permanent crown being
made 10 weeks later.
Properly done, an implant and crown are virtually
indistinguishable from a natural tooth.
There are many different implant
makes and systems available to dentists and all work
well. We have been using implants for over 10
years and have a 98% success rate.
